A New Beginning ... The Spartan Athletic Club

Greenbrier East High School's thirty-eighth anniversary will record a new milestone for the students, teachers, staff, parents, and community with the introduction of the Class of 2009. The Class of 2009 entered the doorways of the newly built Greenbrier East High School August 26, 2005 as the Inaugural Freshman Class. This is an exciting time of both academic growth and athletic growth as the doors open to approximately 325 new ninth grade faces. In fact 50% of the student body for the 2005-2006 school year entered as Spartans for the first time as the ninth and tenth grades. It is truly an exciting time at Greenbrier East High School and we want to share that enthusiasm with you as equally invested partners.

The first and foremost priority for the teachers and staff of Greenbrier East High School and the community is to provide an outstanding education to all students so that they will be equipped with the necessary tools to be successful in life. Additionally, we realize that involvement in extra-curricular activities positively enhances the student's life and teaches the life skills and self-discipline necessary to be successful both in the classroom and in the athletic arena.

I sincerely hope you will agree that our most important resource for a prosperous future is our youth, and specifically the young men and women that attend Greenbrier East High School. The one characteristic that separates the community of Greenbrier County from other communities throughout the state and this country is your genuine love, overwhelming support and concern for your youth. You don't want to settle for second best. YOU WANT THE VERY BEST, and in order to reach and this goal we must all be under the same umbrella of vision and support together.

In addition to the excitement surrounding the implementation of the new ninth grade class there is excitement surrounding the Greenbrier East
Athletic Department as well. A unified and unanimous decision has been made by the Athletic Department to bring all of the separate booster groups under the one umbrella to form the newly charter, "Spartan Athletic Club." This unified effort is necessary as Greenbrier East enters its first full year of participation in the MSAC.

The formation of the Spartan Athletic Club will allow you, the student-athletes, the coaches, and the community to share the vision for the future together. Great things are happening for Spartan Athletics, but we will need your support as a full partner as we progress to becoming the most respected and highly successful high school athletic program in the State of West Virginia. Can this happen? Certainly, but only if we come together as full partners in this pursuit of excellence.

We must relinquish and dismiss the old notion that there are major sports and minor sports in high school athletics as Spartans. All of our Athletic Teams must become Major Sports, regardless of the specific sport or gender in the hearts and minds of the student athletes, coaches, parents, and community. A unified and cooperative vision supported with commitment and financial stability can provide each and every female and male Spartan Athlete the very best athletic experience possible.

Why settle for second best? Let's be the very best together as we become full partners under the same umbrella as members of the Spartan Athletic Club!
